On the spectrum

Contents: Basic information about the self-help group, target audience, contact details.

‘On the spectrum’ is a service provided by the Accessibility Service (ZAB) for people on the autism spectrum at Bielefeld University. The group’s networking meetings are designed to be run in the style of a self-help group by people on the autism spectrum for people on the autism spectrum.

What is the self-help group?

A self-help group is a voluntary association of people in the same or similar circumstances, with the same or similar problems, who support one another and share their experiences. Collaboration within the group aims to empower members to help themselves and is characterised by the fact that it is led by the participants themselves rather than by professionals.

Participants in ‘On the spectrum’ find a supportive space within the networking group where they can share experiences and learn from one another, offer mutual support, and jointly develop strategies for managing their individual university lives.

Who is the ‘On the spectrum’ group aimed at?

The group is designed to offer students and staff at Bielefeld University who are on the autism spectrum a platform for exchange. Meetings take place every two weeks in the evening and last approximately 1.5 hours. The networking meetings are held in german.
