3. Digital teaching – Planning in the context of a session (checklist)

Contents: Before the session, During the session, After the session.

To meet everyone’s needs and enable you to use these resources whenever and wherever you like, this checklist, along with two further checklists on the topics ‘Digital Teaching – Planning within the Context of the Semester’ and ‘Inclusive Classroom’ are available for download as a single checklist entitled ‘Planning Inclusive Digital Teaching’ (Word document).

Before the session

Provide participants with the necessary materials and potential discussion questions approximately 3 days before the session.

During the session

  1. Make the session’s agenda clear from the outset.
  2. Plan regular short breaks for everyone and communicate these clearly.
  3. Make relevant information accessible both aurally and visually. Both text and graphics should be provided.
  4. When using PowerPoint, utilise the automatic live captioning feature.
  5. Where necessary and possible, involve interpreters (for sign language or written language). Take this into account when setting the pace of speech.
  6. Provide opportunities for questions and communicate these clearly.
  7. Where necessary, explain the rules for interaction (e.g. netiquette, feedback guidelines, structure for discussions).
  8. Encourage your students to pay attention to accessibility themselves, for example when creating documents, media (e.g. videos) or sharing resources.
  9. Vary the format of the session throughout the course.

After the session

Provide written handouts.
