Body Positivity / Body Neutrality

Body positivity is an approach that promotes the recognition and appreciation of all body shapes and sizes. The movement aims to challenge societal beauty standards and highlight the fact that a person’s worth does not depend on their appearance. For people with disabilities, body positivity means that they can accept their bodies and feel comfortable in them, regardless of functionality or external standards. Campaigns such as #HotPersonInAWheelchair show that people in wheelchairs, too, can express self-confidence and attractiveness.

Body neutrality goes one step further: here, the focus is on not constantly judging the body, but on accepting it as a normal, functional part of life. This approach can be particularly relieving for people with disabilities, as it reduces the pressure to view one’s own body in a positive light.
