Participation
Participation refers to the right and opportunity of all people to play an active part in, and to benefit from, all areas of society – such as education, work, politics, culture and leisure. In the context of disability, participation means that people with disabilities not only have access, but are also involved in social processes on an equal footing and in a self-determined manner. The term describes not merely ‘being present’, but active involvement in life situations with the opportunity for self-determination, personal fulfilment and recognition.
