Wheelchair

A wheelchair is a mobility aid that helps people with walking difficulties or other physical limitations to get about. Wheelchairs enable independent movement and social participation in everyday life, education, work and leisure.

Wheelchairs require professional fitting tailored to the patient’s disability, needs and capabilities. Examples of different types of wheelchairs:

• Standard wheelchair (mainly for indoor use, manually propelled, suitable for short-term use).
• Standard lightweight wheelchair (for home and hospital use, with extended adjustment options for the user’s seating position and residual function, low weight).
• Multi-functional wheelchair (highly customisable, lightweight and highly manoeuvrable thanks to adjustable wheel positions, armrests, headrests, backrest angle, leg rests with length adjustment, etc.). Powered assist devices for manual wheelchairs can increase mobility whilst requiring minimal effort.
• An electric wheelchair enables movement with the least possible effort.
