Representation for employees with disabilities
The Representation for employees with disabilities (SBV) is the elected body representing the interests of employees with severe disabilities and those treated as such in companies, government departments and public institutions in Germany. It champions the rights, participation and equality of these employees and works to remove barriers in the workplace.
The key tasks of the SBV include:
- Advising and supporting employees with severe disabilities,
- involvement in recruitment, transfers, dismissals and workplace integration measures,
- cooperation with employers, works councils or staff councils, and the Integration Office,
- initiatives to create accessible working conditions and to promote the professional development of people with disabilities.
The legal basis is provided by Book Nine of the Social Code (SGB IX), Sections 176–182, which governs the rights, duties and election procedures of the Representation for employees with disabilities.
