Wheelchair accessibility

A design principle that describes whether an object – e.g. a table, washbasin or information desk – is designed in such a way that a wheelchair can be manoeuvred underneath it. This is essential for the independent use of facilities by people with reduced mobility. In higher education institutions, this applies, for example, to laboratory tables, canteen tables, library counters or height-adjustable workstations. The DIN standards on accessibility specify precise dimensions in this regard.
