Signed English/Manually Coded English/MCE
Signed English/Manually Coded English (MCE) is a communication system in which every spoken word is simultaneously supplemented by a corresponding sign from sign language.
Unlike German Sign Language, which has its own grammar, MCE follows the grammar and sentence structure of spoken language. It is therefore not a language in its own right, but a visual supplement to spoken language designed to support language comprehension through visualisation. MCE can be used to support the spoken language development of children with hearing impairments, and to facilitate communication with people with speech and language development delays or disorders, as well as with people with cognitive impairments.
