Tactile ground guidance system

A tactile ground guidance system is an arrangement of textured paving slabs or strips that provide orientation and safely guide people who are blind or visually impaired by allowing them to feel the surface with their feet or a white cane.

Tactile paving systems are designed to stand out from the surrounding paving both tactilely (for blind and severely visually impaired people) and visually through high contrast (for visually impaired and sighted people).

They typically consist of either ribbed or linear elements to indicate the direction of travel, or of raised dots or attention fields. These mark specific points in a space, signal a change of direction or warn of hazards.
