Universal Design, Open Design

Universal Design refers to the design and planning of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used by as many people as possible, regardless of their age, height, abilities or disabilities. The concept of Universal Design is aimed at maximising accessibility and user-friendliness. It goes beyond the requirements of accessibility by making it easier for the widest possible group of users to use spaces and products. This involves taking into account aspects such as ergonomics, perceptibility, comprehensibility and robustness during the planning stage. The aim is to create environments that are as inclusive as possible from the outset, rather than having to make retroactive adjustments for specific sections of the population.
