Deafness allowance / benefit

Deaf people are entitled to financial support under the Act on Assistance for the Blind and Deaf (GHBG). The Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe (LWL) pays this support if the person lives in Westphalia-Lippe. People with congenital deafness or deafness acquired before the age of 18, or with severe hearing loss bordering on deafness (at least 80 per cent hearing loss in both ears), receive monthly support of 77.00 euros. People whose hearing impairment has worsened later in life (after reaching the age of 18) to the point of deafness do not receive any benefits.
